Brief profile:

Prof. Dr. univ. Arsène Verny, M.E.S., Jean Monnet Professor for European law, lawyer in Berlin and Prague. In 1992 Prof. Verny founded a Prague-based branch office for a reputable law firm operating internationally and was responsible for building up and heading this branch office until 1998. After that he set up his own law firm and since May 2011 he has been working as an Of-Counsel with the law firm e/s/b Rechtsanwälte.

 

Besides European and international economic law, central European law, investment law and social law, Prof. Verny specialises in public subsidies and public procurement as well as national and international arbitration.

 

From 1995 to 2002 Prof. Verny was the leading expert of the European Union (Principal Advisor/Project Director/Lead Expert) in a variety of projects such as PHARE, Cards and TACIS, and held decision-making authority in overseeing and shaping the legal transformation process in new member states, with a focus on the Czech Republic, Central and Eastern Europe. Until 2002 he was a permanent advisor to the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic and a member of the legislative council of the minister.

 

Prof. Verny is also a member of the Department of West European Studies (Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence) with the Institute of International Relations at Charles University in Prague, Danube University Krems, and a lecturer with the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and at the Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg. He is a team member of Humboldt-Viadrina School of Governance GmbH Berlin. Since the autumn of 2013 he has held a professorship in the subjects European Politics and European Studies at the renowned Jan Evangelist Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and in European Economic Law with the Department for Constitutional and European Law at the respected University of West Bohemia.

Prof. Verny provides advice in the area of industry and trade, and to public institutions, mostly on international investment projects and multinational collaboration. The focus of his work is on European Union law, national and European subsidies. You can find expert advice from Prof. Verny on these topics in numerous publications and some 120 expert opinions regarding the economic law of Central Europe, the progress of European integration and the impact of the extension to the East on Germany, Great Britain, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

 

In addition, Prof. Verny is the representative of the IFM group (IFM-Gruppe) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
